WHAT ARE WELLSPRING’S FIVE ROCKS?
Over the last few years, Wellspring has prioritized international missions, college outreach, and foster and adoption support. These ministries will continue to be a priority; however, we are sharing with you “Five Rocks” that will be points of emphasis, impacting all ministries at Wellspring on some level. We believe this is how the Holy Spirit is leading us to become a more biblical church that is growing deeper together as disciples of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 3:14-21). Join us as we all seek to honor God and follow His leadership in these five areas over the next couple of years.
WHERE WE HAVE BEEN…
THE FIVE ROCKS
These five rocks have been areas of focus for us as a church. These were things that we feel God has laid on our hearts as leaders to give our attention to as we faithfully execute our vision of glorifying God by making Disciples of Jesus Christ.
Below is a snapshot of our goals, our wins, and what remains ongoing regarding each rock.
ROCK #1 – PRAYER
GOAL: FOR WELLSPRING CHURCH TO GROW IN THE AREA OF PRAYER
WINS: Quarterly Prayer and Worship Nights, prayer emphasized when teams gather, prayer and fasting taught and modeled through the Rooted Curriculum.
ONGOING: Prayer will continue to be a defining emphasis of Wellspring. We will gather for Prayer & Worship Nights, incorporate prayer into Sunday services, and prioritize prayer whenever leaders and ministry teams meet. We want to be a church marked by dependence on God and confidence in His presence.
ROCK #2 – STEWARDSHIP
GOALS:
1. FOR WELLSPRING CHURCH TO GROW IN THE AREA OF FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP.
2. TO SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE OUR DEBT BURDEN BY APRIL OF 2026.
WINS: The mortgage has been significantly reduced through faithful giving of the church and the refinance. Resources have been made available to the congregation in the Connection Center (over 150 books given away), and the Stewardship Team continues to prayerfully consider how to grow the church and its members in being more generous.
ONGOING: The Stewardship Team continues to develop resources and opportunities to help Wellspring grow in generosity and financial faithfulness. Stewardship remains essential to our discipleship and our long term health as a church.
ROCK #3 – ROOTED
GOAL: FOR THE PEOPLE OF WELLSPRING TO GROW DEEPER IN THEIR FAITH.
WINS: Rooted discipleship journey was successfully launched, and people are actively growing in their relationship with God through the 10-week experience.
ONGOING: Rooted will continue to be a way in which we get people into community and growing deeper in their knowledge and love of God.
ROCK #4 – CARE & COUNSELING
GOAL: TO BE A CHURCH THAT IS EQUIPPING ITS MEMBERS TO CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER BIBLICALLY, MEETING PHYSICAL, SPIRITUAL, AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS IN A HOLISTIC MANNER.
WINS: Wellspring Biblical Counseling has been officially established as an integrated auxiliary ministry to Wellspring Church (similar to Reach). Kaase Boer has officially completed training through Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF), and twelve additional members are on track to complete training this year and next.
ONGOING: This rock has taken significant strides thanks to the work of Kaase Boer and Kirby Young. While an infrastructure is still being completed, Wellspring Biblical Counseling is now an official integrated auxiliary ministry, and we look forward to formally launching counseling services to the church in the near future.
ROCK #5 – CHURCH PLANT
GOAL: TO SEE THE GOSPEL EXPANDED HERE IN WEST MICHIGAN THROUGH THE PLANTING OF A CHURCH
WINS: King’s Church has been planted and is thriving.
ONGOING: We continue our relationship with the Swindells and the leadership at King’s Church, and seek to help and care for them as we can.
WHERE ARE WE GOING…
THE NEW ROCKS
As we look ahead, Wellspring will continue to have five rocks — five major areas of focus that help us faithfully pursue our mission of glorifying God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Three rocks will remain:
Prayer
Stewardship
Care & Counseling
Again, we believe there is still room for our church to grow in each of these three areas.
The other two rocks — Rooted and Church Planting — are being joyfully retired from the emphasis list. Why? Because God has allowed both to become stable, fruitful, and thriving ministries. They no longer require the same level of strategic development to maintain. They are not disappearing; they are simply moving from “emphasis” to “established.”
And now, after prayer, discernment, and unity among our leaders, God has given us clarity about two new rocks: Investing in Young Adults and Developing Leaders. These new rocks build on the foundation God has already laid and position us for long term faithfulness.
New Rock #1 — Young Adults
We believe God is calling us to deepen our investment in the next generation by focusing intentionally on young adults ages 18-29. A monthly gathering led by Seth Bale has already become a vibrant community. We hope to expand this ministry by increasing Seth’s hours so he can devote more time to studying and preaching the Word, and by adding an additional monthly gathering. Our prayer is that this ministry becomes a place where young adults grow in discipleship, engage in evangelism, and — Lord willing — are raised up for a lifetime of gospel ministry.
New Rock #2 — Leadership Development
We feel called to play an important role in forming leaders — in homes, workplaces, and the church. While people have grown at Wellspring through the faithful preaching of God’s Word, we want to add intentional pathways for leadership formation. We plan to launch a Leadership Development Forum designed to help men and women grow in character, biblical wisdom, and practical leadership skills.
Our desire is to equip leaders who serve with humility, courage, and Christlike conviction. We believe that this emphasis will require a new part-time staff person to help facilitate the overall structure of the program.
How We Can Be Involved Together
Accomplishing these five rocks will take a team effort. Each of us, as members of Wellspring, are called to participate in some way — or in many ways — to see these things through. Glorifying God is not just the work of church leaders; it is the calling of the whole body. Together, we accomplish our mission of glorifying God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.
So how can you be involved?
Pray — Ask God to move in powerful ways at Wellspring. Join us at Prayer & Worship Nights, pray before and during our worship services, and lift up our leaders to remain faithful and obedient.
Give — Give regularly and generously to Wellspring Church. Your investment fuels ministry and helps us continue to grow in faithfulness and impact.
Serve — Step into opportunities with Rooted, Care & Counseling, Young Adults, or Leadership Development. Some of you may need to begin serving so that others can step into new areas of calling. It takes all of us serving one another.
Invite — Bring friends, neighbors, and young adults into community and discipleship. A simple invitation can change a life.
Every person has a part to play. Whether through prayer, generosity, service, invitation, or leadership, we are all called to participate in the mission of making disciples. Together, we will continue to see God glorified and His kingdom advanced in West Michigan and beyond.
